Everybody I know calls the purple condo on Ft. Lauderdale's SE 15th Avenue “that purple building.” And I knew — from the first time I saw it — that I had to paint it. Then one clear, sunny day — the kind of day that is so bright that the sun turns the trees and shrubs almost yellow with its brilliance — I was struck by the presence of the large rose colored building next to it. Fixated as I had been on the purple building, I'd virtually never noticed it before. But now I knew that THAT had to be the angle from which to paint, even though the block–like red building in the foreground seemed almost to dwarf the far more interesting one behind. The resulting painting, “Local Color,” is but one of many symbols of all the local color Ft. Lauderdale has to offer. This painting was accepted into the Broward Art Guild's juried 51st Anniversary Exhibition.
